Just who do the Spin Cycle Works think they are? And what do they want?
We sent our intrepid reporter on her very own Mission Spinpossible to find out

Spin Cycle Works is a division of the deeply secretive global mega corporation Spin Industries Co. They appear to do nothing except spend all day crafting unique, truly desirable lightweight performance bicycles from Spindustrial Carbo-Tanium.

Here, in the words of the Spin Doctor himself (nearly caught on CCTV, right, just out of shot), we bring you their remarkable story.

Well, that's what he told us anyway.

Qualified Spin Dr
This is the story of Spin
Our family owned and run business started more than 20 years ago with one very old, very used milling machine in a tiny backstreet workshop in Singapore. Today we operate from multiple facilities across asia and europe and we create light fast & beautiful titanium bikes.

We're grounded in the design, engineering and production of high precision industrial components, OEM precision tool & mould fabrication, through to rapid prototyping and aerospace approved products that are used today around the globe and by industries as diverse as automotive, aviation, marine, motorsport, electronics and manufacturing. You can find our products racing through the forest on MINI WRC rally cars, sailing the oceans on superyachts or helping to produce some of the more precise and intricate parts that make up your TV or aircon.

When we decided to engineer and craft our own bicycles, we did so because we wanted to and not because we had to. We did so after a lifetime of riding the road, experiencing its pain and its pleasure. We did so as road cyclists first and foremost, and as admirers of the form and the function of the bike. And we did so because we've never been less than truly inspired by the beauty and the majesty of road racing.

There was only ever one material we considered for our frames: titanium. A material we know well. From a professional point of view. And from thousands of miles astride.

Over the past 20 years or so, we've developed a love for titanium as the perfect frame material. This love soon developed into an expensive addiction to the very best bikes from the pioneers and masters of the metal. Names such as Lynskey, Litespeed, Merlin and De Rosa. These are the fabricators we measure ourselves against, the benchmark for Ti bikes.

Today there's a large choice of bargain basement Ti bikes. Sadly you won't find ours down there. But for similar money, we're confident that you won't find any with the level of knowledge, detail, craftsmanship and care we put into our beautifully engineered, properly thought out frames.

But we go further still, because unlike most Ti bike companies, we think a great Ti frame deserves nothing less than custom tuned titanium parts to match. Mating a Ti frame to an alloy stem or carbon seat post is detrimental to performance and ride. We mate our Ti frames to perfectly matched Ti seat posts, headsets and stems, and to carefully optimised all-carbon forks and bars.

We believe that all of this is necessary if we're going to Spin Your Ride.We believe these are the things that make all the difference. Between bicycles made by people who truly love to ride, and those conceived just to shift sales units. We believe that if you like light, fast and beautiful bicycles, you'll find plenty to like here.

At Spin we only make the bikes we want to own and ride ourselves. They're the bikes that started out as sketches in the back of our school work books when we really should have been listening to the teacher. They're the bikes we've been destined to build for a lifetime. And they're the bikes now fully realised in the metal which you can find out about here.

This is who we think we are.

And what do we want? Just something great. To truly Spin Your Ride.

10 Most Excellent Reasons To Make Your Next Bicycle A Titanium Super Bike From The Masters Of Spin

A Spin Ti bike is nothing less than hand crafted art in motion
The days of the artisan bike builders and truly unique parts have long gone. These days, everyone's on more or less the same bike, built with the same component parts. Well, we're on a mission to bring the art, the craft and the individuality back. With a vengeance.

You can't make Ti bikes in a hurry
You can't make them in a mould, or with any kind of slick mass production. Titanium is notoriously hard to work. It fights back and it has a strong personality. We really love that. But what it takes from us during the many long and arduous hours of fabrication, it gives back to you on every ride. And we really, really love that.

Not all Ti is created equal: real craftsmanship is in short supply
But we happen to employ the world's finest aerospace trained Ti craftsmen and women, and their meticulous work is right there proudly on show. You can see it in every weld. You can feel it in every small detail. Nothing is hidden. We encourage you to compare Spin craftsmanship to that which you'll find on other metal bikes. Hold our Ti frames and components to account against the best you can find at any price. We believe you will not be disappointed.

Titanium looks like nothing else
We love all kinds of bicycles. But it looks increasingly to us that everyone is riding the same bike these days, no matter what name is on the down tube. See that carbon bike with the projectile vomit graphics? Crikey! There's another. They're all screaming "look at me". We prefer not to shout, and the Spit doesn't need to.

Titanium rides like nothing else
Ti comes alive when you ride, and your bike becomes your ally and trusted friend. Steel is closest in feel. But that's only if all your rides are downhill. If you want to ride up hill and fast through the twisty stuff, then the lightweight custom shaped tubes of our Ti frames make for super responsive bikes that sacrifice nothing to stiffness nor power transfer. But just like steel, they don't beat you up.

Spin Ti is properly metal - but it isn't heavy
We like metal. It's reassuringly tough. Yes it's true: titanium is special heavy metal. Yet we turn it into bicycles comparable in weight and performance to the very highest of high-end carbon frames. But instead of plastic you get a bike that is reassuringly metallic. We're talking high-end carbon as our comparison by the way, not the bog standard varieties found at the cheaper end of the aisle. Now, if you're a pro who's being paid to ride carbon then it makes sense. With 3 or 4 new (free) frames every year, who cares? But if you're not a pro? Still want to splash your cash to ride and eventually trash plastic?

The initial cost appears to be high but the lifetime cost isn't: Ti lasts
Impervious to rust, corrosion, road grime, scratches, knocks, dings and everything you can throw at it. No paint to scratch. Looks the same in 10 years as now. Take a good look at any top end carbon, alu or steel frame made 10 or even 5 years ago and see if it can make the same claim. The fact is, you're probably looking at trading in your all-singing & dancing carbon superbike every couple of years. You're thinking to yourself, and quite wisely, can I continue to trust a plastic bike where the entire structural integrity is hidden from view and is unknowable? You can trade in your Ti bike too, but the difference is that you won't actually need to.

The Titanium Spitfire looks pretty but don't be fooled: she's hard as nails
Our road frames weren't named Spitfire by accident. Treat her like a tool. Enjoy every minute of riding her in even the foulest of conditions, safe in the knowledge that when the ride's over, your job's done. No worries about fastidiously cleaning every nook and cranny, wondering when corrosion, delamination or fatigue will start setting in. Just go and put your feet up. If you're the pilot of a Titanium Spitfire, you've earned it.

The lessons from a lifetime of riding
Titanium is an engineer's dream material and it's perfect for bikes. But only if you know what makes a great bike before you even think about bending metal. What we've learnt is what differentiates a great bike from just any bike. It's the thought that goes into the smallest of details. These add up to make a huge difference over a lifetime of ownership. Not just to the ride and performance, but to your pride and satisfaction.

The Spin School of Bike Engineering & Design has evolved through our own lives of riding and studying other people's bikes. And the lessons from a lifetime of riding and learning are exactly those we put into every Spin titanium bike and individually hand crafted component.

Lifetime warranty & crash replacement programme
We're really sorry to bring you bad news, but our titanium frames and parts will most probably outlast their riders and our dear customers. But at least you'll have something nice to leave the kids.

Reason #11 Because the Spin Doctor always cranks his stack to 11
Fully optimised front & rear end package to Spin Your Ride

With Spin, you get much more than just a great Ti frame. We've fine tuned and optimised our frames and custom parts to work in total harmony. Adding, not detracting from the ride and the beauty. So the Mk III comes with matching titanium and carbonic super kit to properly Spin Your Ride.

A serious performance bicycle can only ever be the sum of all its parts, just like an F1 car or fighter jet. If one key component is inferior to the rest, the overall result is noticeably inferior.

At Spin, we simply don't do inferior. Just properly proper.

Remember! It's only the Masters of Spin who are this exceptionally titanic and exceedingly carbonic

This is what you get for example when you treat yourself to a Titanium Spitfre Mk III road racing beast of a machine:

  • Frame: Titanium Spitfire Mk III Supermarine
  • Fork: All Carbon Spin Fork In Hell
  • Headset: All Titanium Spin Hendrix
  • Seat Post: All Titanium Spin Monolithic T-Zero
  • Seat Clamp: All Titanium Hendrixed QuickLight
  • Stem: All Titanium Spin Monolithic Bi-Axial
  • Bars: All Carbon Spin QuickLight Compact Ergonomic
Light Fast & Beautiful. Fast Fun & Fabulous. That's The Spin. And that's the memo.
The Masters of Spin love the bicycle. We love riding. But what really does it for us is this. Creating bicycles and custom components from our very favourite materials. Truly unique parts that are light, fast & beautiful.

Most of all, we love to pursue a somewhat unattainable goal. To craft the ultimate bicycle. Naturally this is much easier if an unlimited budget is at your disposal. But we strive instead to do so at remarkable value for money.

The ultimate bicycle
Be it for road or track, the ultimate bike requires nothing less than a heart & soul. It must become your faithful and trusted friend. It must look fast, even if it's just leaning up against the cafe window. We happen to prefer ours to be rather elegant as well.

For us, all of those requirements demand a frame that feels alive on every bend and with every spin of the pedals. It must be hand crafted. Only the most optimal of metal alloys will do.

And what of our wheels? Well. They need to be deep, sexy and aero. And preferably woven from a complex matrix of super strong industrial fibres.

Titanium
For us there is only one material suitably qualified for the heart of our perfect bicycle: Titanium. We love Titanium.

We love the way it rides. We love the way it looks, naked and raw. We've even perfected our Spindustrial polished finish in its honour.

We also love how hard Ti is to work. How it fights back. How resilient. How impervious. In short, we simply love Ti.

Carbon
And what better to team with a weapons grade frame and your favourite high end gruppo than a pair of hand-built deep section wheels?

Even better if we can have ours with spokes that glint & sparkle in the early morning sunshine and run on sweet spangly hubs. Just add a super-minimalist Ti Q/R skewer and Continental's finest tubs and we're as happy as can be.

This is what we love at The Spin Cycle Works

And it just happens to be what we do.

If you think you might love the same sort of stuff then we hope you'll find it here.
